Expert and Advocate
Plan D members now make up the majority of active City of Houston employees—yet there is currently no Plan D representation on the HMEPS Board. I am running for Trustee Position 5 to change that.
I am a Plan D participant and a HOPE member, and I understand the retirement concerns facing our entire workforce. Our pension system includes multiple tiers, but all current city HMEPS board members belong to Plan A or B. Their experience is important, but Plan D employees face different challenges, especially around benefit adequacy and long-term retirement security. I know the board benefits from balanced representation, and Plan D voices deserve a seat at the table.
Experience Matters: I have worked for the City of Houston for nearly 13 years and bring more than 30 years of experience in finance, accounting, and auditing. I also serve on the board of directors of another multi-billion-dollar pension system, giving me deep understanding of pension investment strategy, governance, and fiduciary responsibility. I want to use those skills and strategic outlook to benefit you – my colleagues at the City.
In my day-to-day role, I support City employee advisory groups and regularly hear from hundreds of employees. A common concern among colleagues is achieving stronger retirement outcomes, and whether the pension system can work with City leadership and other stakeholders to responsibly improve benefits. Without Plan D representation, these concerns risk being overlooked.
City employees choose public service despite rising living costs and lower pay. I am running to ensure the pension system reflects our current City workforce and actively works toward better outcomes for all employees, especially Plan D members.
